Final Qualifying Course for
2007 Open Championship

Course Manager: Niall C Bruce 

Niall was appointed as our Course Manager of Montrose Golf Courses as from 11 February 2008 having been employed at Montrose since June 2002. 

Niall started his Greenkeeping career as an apprentice at Arbroath Golf Club in 1991.  Following his training he moved to Newmachar Golf Club where he was appointed as First Assistant and remained there until he moved to Montrose in 2002.  In May 2003 Niall was promoted to First Assistant, the position he held until his appointment as Course Manager. 

Niall has completed SVQ Level IV through Elmwood College.

Course Green Staff 

Our First Assistant Greenkeeper is Les Rae who was appointed to this position in February 2008. Les returned to work at Montrose in October 2006 from Forfar Golf Club. He orginally worked at Montrose from May 1989 to May 1995, when he took up a position at Forfar Golf Club. 

  

We also have a dedicated team of four Green Staff who are all trained to a minimum SVQ Level II in Sportsturf.  Two members of the Green Staff have trained to SVQ Level III in Sportsturf.  Additional formal training in various areas includes pesticide application, chain saw operation, first aid and vermin control.

  

The Green Staff are assisted by two full-time labourers together with one seasonal course ranger/starter.

  

We currently employ one younger staff member under the 'Skillseekers' programme, undertaking college training as well as being taught greenkeeping skills on the courses.

  

A full-time mechanic is employed to maintain our comprehensive fleet of modern machinery.  He also carries out all maintenance and repairs to the irrigation system.   We also employ a full-time Apprentice Mechanic.
